3A – Your Entrepreneurship Story

                                                              Entrepreneurship story

When I first came to college I was looking for some programs to join because I wanted to be apart of a community, and Innovation Academy gave me that opportunity. I did the interview for the Launchpad Scholars program, which is a program that picks a select amount of students, to pick a problem and solve the problem within a semester.

For the first two weeks they had us identify problems we had and to recognize people's problems around us. The problems started out with small and big problems like not being able to see your toast when it is burning, trash being thrown in the ocean and animals becoming victims.

Next, we had to narrow the problem down and make it more clear. To narrow it down we had to figure out what was practical, and who our customer was. We finally narrowed the problem down to not being able to find seating in the library during finals. We knew that we weren’t going to make an entire system for the library, but what we could do was run a simulator for people to use.

For the research we had to contact the library committee, the manager over the Student Rec because in the gym there's a camera system to know whose in the gym and that's similar to what we wanted to use for the solution. Me and my group set up a simulation in Library West using a tabling system. We had different color stickers to mark the sections and we set up a link for them to mark how long they stayed in the seat and when they got in the seat.

All of this feedback helped me to take action instead of waiting to the end of the entire semester to find a solution. It was very time consuming because we had to brainstorm together and create logos and decisions. Overall It was the best experience for me because I learned to be a risk taker and to get a little insight one what it took to be a problem solver.

I signed up for ENT 3003 because I want to obtain more skill to become more confident on narrowing my problems and figuring out solutions. During my experience with the Launchpad scholars, I felt as if we could have done more, and next time when I get another experience to brainstorm with a group I want to be able to contribute more skill and knowledge. I can find a lot of problems, but I find it had to get a solution or maybe I'm just overthinking.
