14A – Halfway Reflection

Tenacity & Paying It Forward

What have you done to keep up with the requirements of this class?

I had to realize that keeping up with the class meant that I had to plan out what assignments take more time and what assignments don't take as much time. We also made a Group Me chat group the helps me plan for the assignments, and understand the curriculum for the class. At first, the class was confusing, but with some guidance I was able to turn in my assignments the correct way. Another thing is mapping out my decisions. At one point of the course we had to choose a product to pursue, and I had to choose something that I was serious about. This made my other assignments, that involved the product, easier to complete.

What was the hardest moment for you? How did you get through? Did it make you develop a more serious attitude?

The hardest moment for me was the extra credit project. Although, it was a short assignment and it was straightforward, it was hard for me because I am not used to standing in front of a big crowd and pitch an idea like that before. I have had practice with the project IA students have to do for our biodiversity pitch, but to stand up on my own was a different experience. I was thinking about the criticism and it made me nervous, but it was ironic because our ideas are always going to have critique. I got through it by making sure everything was clear and I prepared for all of the questions. It made me develop a more seriousness because when, you prepare for all of the possibilities, and coming up a serious product that will be marketed with consumers it legitimizes your seriousness towards the product.

What are three tips you will have for next semesters student in this class?

my first tip would be.

1. Make sure you map out your assignments so you're not left last minute trying to figure out who you're going to interview? or what is the correct way to turn in your assignment?

The second tip would be.

2. Approach each assignment with agency and seriousness. I found out that each assignment was entwined with future assignments. So if you don't complete the first assignment with seriousness then it will be hard for you to complete the next assignment.

3. Have fun with the course. The more fun you have the more serious you become with the class. If you start off with a product that you do not like because you didn't take it serious
, then you will spend the rest of the class regretting everything that you do. Then you will slack on your assignments.

  1. Hi Kyra, thanks for your reflection. I haven't done the extra credit project yet so I don't know much about what we have to do, but you mentioned having to stand in front of a crowd and pitch your idea. Public speaking is not one of my strong suits, so that made me kind of nervous. But you described how you got over that and it helped me think about how I can be prepared as well. I hope I do well when I present for my extra credit project!
