What's Next?
Segment 1
Existing market:
The next step for me in my business venture is trying to grow another product for the library that pertains to lifting the burden off of custodians, but this time it would be more for the students. I would also interview more students to see what problems they have in the libraries.
Interview 1:
What is some issues to focus on in the library?
The told me some of the comfy chairs in the library needs replacements, and maybe that can make a new area for people to be comfortable in.
What are some improvements that I can make to my business venture?
I think something that can further the business venture is if you made it with a UF design. For a lot of business designs they had people intrigued by the look of it. For instance Apple is not something that came in mind when you thought of technology because an apple is a nature and agricultural thing.
Interview 2:
What are some issues to focus on campus or in the libraries?
I think we should focus on the dangers of the buses. People just walk in front of the buses without a care for their safety. I've seen some pretty close calls because the bus would try to get by and people would try an walk around the bus. It still deals with the students and it opens up a new idea for you.
What are some improvements that I can make to my existing venture?
Something that you can focus on is how can you make drinks and things thrown in the trash not stain the trash.
Interview 3:
What are some issues to focus on in the libraries or on campus?
Some problems that I have noticed that people with bikes can't always afford lights, and it can be dangerous for them not to have one. At night time cops pull bicycle drivers over, and give them tickets.
What do you think should be done about that issue?
I feel like it is important enough for people to care about. So maybe you can come up with a way to make solar powered lights for bikes using a program through the school.
What are some improvements that I can make with my existing venture?
I don't think that you have thought about the recycling of things because in the library they one have one trash can. So maybe you can think about what can be implemented into you plan for recyclable things.
Interview Reflection:
In my business venture I noticed that I had a lot of room for improvement, and I learned these things through my interviews. One question in my interviews that stayed fairly the same is what improvements could I make for my existing business venture? and the answers made a good point. One of the topics is trash assortment. I never really thought about the recycle waste from the regular trash, and I need to make improvements on assortment. That made me also think about how the library on campus does not sort their trash. I also can make it more appealing to the students. I understand that it is a waste bin, but the students need to feel obligated to use the product, and not feel as though it's another regular waste bin.
One other question that I focused on was 'What are some issues that I can focus on'. I want to move forward making our campus clean, and I wanted to get more issues and feedback. what surprised me is others focused on the safety of our campus. For instance, they talked about people not watching their surrounding when they're crossing the street in front of buses, and people not able to afford light to put on their bikes at night. These topics are very interesting and sound important enough to move forward into finding a solution.
Segment 2
New Market:
In my new market I will be using the B2C market. In my previous market I focused on the B2B market because it was easier for me to rely on. In a 'Business to Business' market you would choose your product based on popularity, profit, and the emotional trigger of the burden on custodians and the people not liking unclean spaces. So in my new market, Business-to-Consumer, promotes my product to the people. At first I targeted the institution because they care about the well being of their workers, school, and students. So I would really have to sell the emotional side of the advertisement of my product to really get the students involved.
Generating Value:
To really sell it to the students they usually like free thing's, and we can start a software that makes it into a charity. The more trash that is collected and bins sold we will donate to a charity or host an event. This will make them competitive, active, and aware.
Interview 1:
This interview loved the idea. He is a student that loves free things, and he said that he cared more about something if it was something to gain. He told me that a lot of the revenue would come from the school, and the school loves to see that their students are interested in a product. Anything that benefits the school well-being and bring the community of students and staff together will generate profit.
Interview 2:
She let me know that the business venture will spread awareness of the problem because she didn't even know it was a big problem. One of the things that she recommended instead of a pizza party you should create a hashtag, and advertise it. Once I have the hashtag people can join a team, and whomever collects the most trash under the hashtag or promotes the most wins merchandise. She feels that competition will incite awareness and the word of the product would spread easily. She also recommended that I got a PR team.
Interview Reflections:
In the 'Business-to-Consumer' market I noticed how much input the consumers had within the business plan. Before I changed the market it was more about networking between businesses and the institution, and now I am more active within the community of people. Also my business venture also became a lot about spreading the word about it. It makes me recognize what I left out in my business plan, and what parts of it I need to focus on. For instance, I needed to include the students and custodians on what the product was and how it worked.
What is really positive about the B2C market is that the information spreads faster about your plan. I never thought about the advertisement of my product before I switched my plan, and more about the financial, material, and build of the product. it also gives me better feedback of the product as well. I also realized the dangers of this type of market as well. My customers are really in control of how my product does.
Hello Kyra,
ReplyDeleteGreat job with this post. You provided a fantastic level of detail. One thing I found particularly interesting was the comment your second interviewee made about bus safety. I have never seen jaywalking as frequently anywhere else as I have in Gainesville. That may be another good opportunity to pursue. My only feedback, if any, would be to insure there are not any grammar errors in your post. You missed some capitalizations and spaces.
I like that you are sticking with your primary focus of working to improve the environment on campus for students. I think that it is important to stay focused on one idea and work on improving it. I also think that your interviews were really insightful to your product and will help you take the next step.
ReplyDeleteHey there Kyra!
ReplyDeleteAs I have mentioned before, I think your venture is one that could be very helpful. Great job with the post too. The interviews were detailed and I definitely got a better handle of what your next step will end up being. It may take a bit to develop, but I am excited to see how it goes. Keep it up!
