26A – Celebrating Failure

Let's Fail, A Lot!

I have failed at a lot of things this semester, but one thing in particular is taking the time out of my schedule to find me off campus housing. It has been my all time dream to get my own apartment away from home while I can, and procrastination and doubt has been my biggest enemies.

1. ProcrastinationImage result for procrastinate

It is easier for you to put in a twenty five dollar application and let the on-campus housing choose your housing for you, and that is how I have lived. I would wait to the very last minute to put in the application to live in a dorm, and find out where they placed me. I don't procrastinate on my schoolwork, but for some reason I procrastinated on this. I never liked living in a dorm, but I would find myself here every semester.

2. Doubt

I have never officially lived alone, and without roommates to urge me to get out of the house I would probably stay in all the time. I don't want to be enclosed all the time, and I appreciate the extra push to not stay inside.

What have you leaned from it?

I have learned that putting in the extra time for something that you want it not that hard to do. I have also learned that you have to stay involved in activities and organizations to not be isolated. The most important thing that I have learned is that setting due dates for yourself can make you a productive person.

Reflection:

I think failure is in someway a huge factor in success. If you're constantly looking for success and not willing to fail, then you will end up disappointed when you do. This can lead to you giving up on things that you want to accomplish. I had to change my mindset about the situation because if I continued to make excuses of not going out and finding me a place to live I would still be staying in an on campus dorm for Summer. This class has taught me to take risks now, and you can find out what does not work later. I realized some strategies that I used made me less efficient, and lead me to not making progress.

Now I have an apartment, and it was not that hard for me to find.

  1. I appreciate your honesty in this post. I feel like this post has revealed our similarities between each other as peers. I think it is important to prioritize certain things and devote necessary time to them. It is hard to juggle all of our responsibilities, but we have to teach ourselves how to remain productive. Failure is for sure a major role in success and it makes us more human that we experience it so often.

  2. Hi Kyra, as a procrastinator myself, I related to your post a lot. I feel like sometimes I unintentionally put things off because there is not a defined path to complete them. I procrastinated on getting a house and I paid the price by compromising what I wanted to live in. I think the best mindset to have nowadays is to try to figure out steps to accomplish things so I feel more motivated to complete them.

  3. Kyra, I feel you in procrastinating to find an apartment. I am a very indecisive person so when it comes to big decisions for me like where to live I always put them off, and it is something I am working on. I have also realized the hard way that sometimes it's better to just make a quick decision to get it out of the way.

  4. Hey Kyra,
I found the way your approached the topic to be very interesting. I liked how you approached it from outside of a classroom setting. Many times people do not consider the possibility of failure when something is not graded or timed but that's not always true. I find it interesting as well how you say your doubt contributes to your failures because many times the reason we fail is more psychological than physiological.

  5. Hey there Kyra, it's great seeing the sense of awareness that you were showing throughout the writing of this post. I too suffer from procrastination at times and in many cases it has led to a negative result. I have realized how essential it is for me to start figuring out how to deal with it because procrastination is definitely one of the worst things that an individual could be held back by. Keep working at it!
