16A –What’s Your Secret Sauce?

Know Thyself

Why I am truly Unique?

Libraries have been around for a long time, and I know that I am not the first person try and develop a way to solve the issue of making sure it stays clean. Another thing that I inhibited in my product is the phrase "work smarter not harder."

1. I provide an easy access to the disposal. The last thing a student wants to worry about is getting up to throw away their trash.

2. I make the student feel appreciated, by making it easier even though they are apart of the problem.

3. I provide a sense of community and involvement from the students and staff.

4. The solution targets the source of the problem by getting the direct opinions of the custodians.

5. This product takes a different tactic of getting the students to care about the process of keeping the library clean.

Interviews:

This interview talks about how the current tactic of keeping the library clean is a simple solution that is not helping the custodians. The tactic they use like the sign of the things they can and cannot bring in only helps slightly. Instead of targeting on what the students can bring in and what they can't they needed to target the actual problem, for a more action approach.

My interview with this person was happy with the idea because they were the type of person that would find a way to bring in foods they were not supposed to anyway. They claim to not leave their trash behind, but for a person that does, it's because they forgot about the trash or they were just lazy in a way

This customer really delve into how they see more things that need to be cleaned other than just the trash. They talk about how the tables are left with crumbs and wetness from the drinks from Starbucks. They said that the problem not only lye's within the trash and time the custodians have, but the students not taking the time to clean behind themselves.

For this interview this person took the approach of awareness of the situation. This person talks about how the barely see the custodians around the library, and that they thought they weren't really doing their jobs. From my pitch the person realized that it's not that they are not doing their jobs, but they're trying to keep up with the work of cleaning behind hundreds of students. The miscommunication of the students and custodians are leading to the problem as well.

The last person I talked with was the custodian, and she talked about how the library is a hard place to clean without the help of the students. She thinks that if the plan does not work out the way I internally see the library, the plan still helps remind the students this is the place that they want to be. The custodians want them to always remember they matter in cleaning the library. She liked that I focused more on the community aspect of the problem and used it within my solution.

Refection:

I learned that if you want to tackle a problem that is based on community you have to use community contribution within the solution. The problem with the system of custodians not having enough help to keep the library clean, was the fact the students didn't realize of how much they mattered in cleaning behind themselves. I see that the more I talk about the problem and ask about their input the solution always include a type of awareness and a contribute from both the faculty in staff. I would add to my list the ways people can raise awareness of the burdens of custodians in a different approach. Don't make the student feel bad about the custodians, but make them feel responsible in a fun way. We have to make the experience memorable for everyone involved so they don't forget about the impact they make on the library.
