20A – Growing Your Social Capital
It's Who You Know,
Not What You Know.

Industry
The company that I chose to interview was with Solutions Inc. and they're a company that devotes their time to bringing each of their customers the best possible solution for managing waste systems.
The person that I got in contact with was Rex Johnson who is the president over the industry. He has over thirty years of experience in the medical life science field. He has worked with companies such as Abbott Laboratories and Sterocycle Naiacle Technologies.
Interview:
When talking with Mr. Johnson he told me to focus on multiple things. First making the product reliable because customers are looking for something that lasts. The second tip that he gave was making sure it works for all of the customers. He gave me the example of Apple. The product is easy to use for older and younger people. Testing it and getting feedback. He said that the product always has room for improvement, and feedback is the most reliable source besides the intellectual resource.
Reflection:
This interview was similar to all of the things that we have learned in this class, but he gave me insightful information to use. He told me to always make sure that the customer is aware of your plans. They love to know the entirety of the cause. If you're making a product that is helping the custodians, make sure the customers know the cause.
Market
The company I chose to interview for my market was Waste 360.
Within the company I spoke to Kaitlin Bradshaw. She is the Communication and Marketing agent in the company. She said that the rising insurance expenses in 2005 increased the costs of materials such as, steel and plastic. She told me the basics of it all. First she told me that to keep the product successful or the company I had to keep my revenue in check. So this is my capital reinvestment and debt repayment. Next, that I had to plan out my material costs. If I was planning to use technology then the costs would rise. Then, knowing how to look for materials to lower costs. For instance, a Las Vegas Hotel and Casino was using pigs to recycle their food instead of wasting it.
Reflection:
This interview gave me information on how to start off successful and how to stay successful with managing my product. She gave me insight on how to save money and how to invest in my success, and to limit the loss of money. Also, she let me know that their is money to be made within the waste industry.
Supplier

The company I chose for supplier was Busch Systems. Their mission statement is "To support everyone who cares about waste diversion with leading edge products and services that maximize the quantity and quality of their recycling program."
The person I spoke with was Bill Bradbury, and he has been with the company since it began. He is the Executive Vice President and COO of the company.
He let me know that creating new waste products is all about being innovative, and learning how to speak the language of your customers. What he means by that is, how to make your customer see your vision, while, incorporating theirs. The goal is to make sure that the supplies that you use is environmentally safe and helps advance the health of the planet. I have to also recognize that the worlds is moving forward with technology. Finally, I have to consider all necessary resources that can be used.
This interview has the importance of making sure that I consider all my options for resources. So far that has been the topic of saving money, and also making sure that I know what is preferred by the customers.
